Configuring NPIV

Page 336 highlights

NOTE: If the NPIV feature is disabled, the port is toggled if NPIV devices are logged in from that F_Port (a true NPIV port). Otherwise the firmware considers that port as an F_Port even though the NPIV feature was enabled. Configuring NPIV To specify the number of virtual N_Port_IDs per port or per switch, use the configure command with either of the following parameters: • switch.login.perPortMax Use this parameter to set the number of virtual N_Port_IDs per port to a value between 0 and 255. The default setting is 126. For the HP StorageWorks 4/256 SAN Director with an HP StorageWorks SAN Director 48 Port 4Gb FC blade or the HP StorageWorks DC SAN Backbone Director or HP StorageWorks DC04 SAN Director Switch with an HP StorageWorks SAN Director 48 Port 8Gb FC blade: For ports 0 through 15 on the HP StorageWorks SAN Director 48 Port 4Gb FC blade and HP StorageWorks SAN Director 48 Port 8Gb FC blade, the maximum number of virtual N_Port_IDs per port is 255; for ports 16 through 47, the maximum number is 127. • switch.login.perSwitchMax Use this parameter to set the number of virtual N_Port_IDs per switch to a value between 0 and 126 multiplied by the number of ports you specify when setting this parameter. The default setting is 16 multiplied by the number of ports specified. If no ports are specified, all ports on the switch are used. 1. Connect to the switch and log in using an account assigned to the admin role. 2. Enter the switchDisable command. IMPORTANT: The switchDisable command disables the switch and stops all traffic flowing to and from the switch. Perform this command during a scheduled maintenance. 3. Enter the configure command. 4. Press Enter, accepting the defaults, until you reach F-Port login parameters. Enter yes or y at the prompt. 5. Select the maximum logins per switch and then press Enter to keep the parameter. 6. Select the maximum logins per port and then press Enter to keep the parameter. 7. Enter Ctrl-C to exit out of the configure command. 8. Enter the switchEnable command to enable the switch. The following example shows the configuration of these parameters: switch:admin> switchdisable switch:admin> configure Configure... Fabric parameters (yes, y, no, n): [no] Virtual Channel parameters (yes, y, no, n): [no] F-Port login parameters (yes, y, no, n): [no] y Maximum logins per switch: (1..4032) [4032] 2048 Maximum logins per port: (1..255) [255] 126 ... switch:admin> switchenable 334 Administering NPIV

Administering NPIV
NOTE:
If the NPIV feature is disabled, the port is toggled if NPIV devices are logged in from that F_Port (a
true NPIV port). Otherwise the firmware considers that port as an F_Port even though the NPIV feature was
enabled.
Configuring NPIV
To specify the number of virtual N_Port_IDs per port or per switch, use the
configure
command with
either of the following parameters:
switch.login.perPortMax
Use this parameter to set the number of virtual N_Port_IDs per port to a value between 0 and 255. The
default setting is 126.
For the HP StorageWorks 4/256 SAN Director with an HP StorageWorks SAN Director 48 Port 4Gb FC
blade or the HP StorageWorks DC SAN Backbone Director or HP StorageWorks DC04 SAN Director
Switch with an HP StorageWorks SAN Director 48 Port 8Gb FC blade:
For ports 0 through 15 on the HP
StorageWorks SAN Director 48 Port 4Gb FC blade and HP StorageWorks SAN Director 48 Port 8Gb
FC blade, the maximum number of virtual N_Port_IDs per port is 255; for ports 16 through 47, the
maximum number is 127.
switch.login.perSwitchMax
Use this parameter to set the number of virtual N_Port_IDs per switch to a value between 0 and 126
multiplied by the number of ports you specify when setting this parameter. The default setting is 16
multiplied by the number of ports specified. If no ports are specified, all ports on the switch are used.
1.
Connect to the switch and log in using an account assigned to the admin role.
2.
Enter the
switchDisable
command.
IMPORTANT:
The
switchDisable
command disables the switch and stops all traffic flowing to and
from the switch. Perform this command during a scheduled maintenance.
3.
Enter the
configure
command.
4.
Press
Enter
, accepting the defaults, until you reach F-Port login parameters. Enter
yes
or
y
at the
prompt.
5.
Select the maximum logins per switch and then press
Enter
to keep the parameter.
6.
Select the maximum logins per port and then press
Enter
to keep the parameter.
7.
Enter
Ctrl-C
to exit out of the
configure
command.
8.
Enter the
switchEnable
command to enable the switch.
The following example shows the configuration of these parameters:
