To use the switchport command on an interface, only the no ip address and no shutdown statements must be listed in the show config output. When you enter the switchport command, the interface is automatically added to the default VLAN. To use the switchport backup interface command on a port, you must first enter the switchport command. For details, see the Configuring Redundant Links section in the Layer 2 chapter of the FTOS Configuration Guide.
