Default Command Mode Usage Guideline Example 1 Router configuration The default-metric command is used in conjunction with the redistribute router configuration (redistribute (RIP) command on page 507) command to cause the current routing protocol to use the same metric value for all redistributed routes. A default metric helps solve the problem of redistributing routes with incompatible metrics. Whenever metrics do not convert, using a default-metric provides a reasonable substitute and enables the redistribution to proceed. The following example shows how to configure the default metric 5 to redistribute the OSPF routes. In other words, it assigns the OSPF-derived routes a RIP metric of 5. Note that the command redistribute ospf without a metric option, causes the OSPF redistribution to use the default metric.
