M4300 Intelligent Edge Series Fully Managed Stackable Switches IMPORTANT: When you click the Apply button, your changes are saved for the web management session but are not retained by the switch when it is rebooted. You can manually save the configuration permanently (see Save the Configuration on page 671) or you can enable the automatic saving feature (see Configure Auto Save Mode on page 671), which lets the switch save the configuration permanently. User-defined fields can contain 1 to 159 characters, unless otherwise noted on the configuration web page. All characters can be used except for the following (unless specifically noted in for that feature): Table 2. Invalid characters for user-defined fields Invalid characters for user-defined fields \ | / * ? Interface Naming Conventions The switch supports physical and logical interfaces. Interfaces are identified by their type and the interface number. The physical ports are Gigabit Ethernet or multispeed 10G Ethernet interfaces and are numbered on the front panel. You configure the logical interfaces by using the software. The following table describes the naming convention for all interfaces available on the switch. Table 3. Naming conventions for interfaces Interface Description Example Physical interfaces for all M4300 switch models except for model M4300-96X The physical ports are Gigabit Ethernet or multispeed 10G Ethernet interfaces. The interface number consists of the switch unit number from 1 to 8, the slot number (which is always 0), and the port number, which is a sequential number starting from 1. 1/0/1, 1/0/2, 1/0/3, and so on 2/0/1, 2/0/2, 2/0/3, and so on 3/0/1, 3/0/2, 3/0/3, and so on Physical interfaces for model M4300-96X The physical ports are Gigabit Ethernet, See Slot and Port Numbering for multispeed 10G Ethernet, or 40G Ethernet Switch Model M4300-96X on interfaces.
