Configure IPv6 Route Preferences Use this page to configure the default preference for each protocol. These values are arbitrary values in the range of 1 to 255 and are independent of route metrics. Most routing protocols use a route metric to determine the shortest path known to the protocol, independent of any other protocol. The best route to a destination is chosen by selecting the route with the lowest preference value. When there are multiple routes to a destination, the preference values are used to determine the preferred route. If there is still a tie, the route with the best route metric is chosen. To avoid problems with mismatched metrics you must configure different preference values for each of the protocols. Configure the IPv6 route preferences: 1. Launch a web browser. 2. In the address field of your web browser, enter the IP address of the switch. The login window opens. 3. Enter admin as the user name, enter your local device password, and click the Login button. The first time that you log in, no password is required. However, you then must specify a local device password to use each subsequent time that you log in. The System Information page displays. 4. Select Routing> IPv6 > Advanced > Route Preference. 5. In the Static field, specify the static route preference value for the router. The range is 1 to 255. The default value is 1. 6.
