Performing, Calculations

Page 102 highlights

Performing Calculations Numeric data are direct numbers or formulas and are calculated. When data is recognized as numeric, Spreadsheet will check whether or not the data is valid. • If the data is valid, the result (a number) is calculated. If the number can fit in the cell, it is automatically right-aligned. If the number cannot fit in the cell, a string of asterisks will fill the cell. The correct number is, however, kept in the memory, and will be displayed if you adjust the width of the column. • If the data is not valid, ERROR will be displayed in the cell, and one of the following messages will appear: When a denominator is zero. Division by zero! Press any key to continue. When a result is positive and contains more than 10 digits. 4 Numeric overflow! I Press any key to continue. When a result is negative and contains more than 10 digits. 4 Numprio undprflowl 1 Press any key to continue. * If a number contains characters other than numeric ones and a decimal point (e.g. 1,000, 100$, 1A2). I Invalid entry! Press any key to continue. Direct Numbers A direct number is made of digits and possibly a decimal point. Other characters will make the data invalid for calculation. The maximum number of digits is 10 to the left of the decimal point and 5 to the right (zeroes preceding other digits are not counted). Here are some examples of valid and invalid numbers: Valid 1234 0.94956 00001 000000000000001 (zeroes are ignored) Invalid 1,000 (comma is invalid) 125$ ($ is invalid) 12a12 (a is invalid) 99999999999 (more than 10 digits) Spreadsheet 94
