Bar chart A bar chart is like a column chart with the bars plotted horizontally rather than vertically. Use bar charts for comparing amounts for fixed time intervals. The same variations are available for bar charts and column charts. Line chart Do not plot more than 12 labels on the vertical axis. Marker A line chart plots a point indicator for each value on one axis in relation to the text label on the other axis, and connects the points in each series with straight lines. This type of chart is useful for showing how a value changes over time. The illustrations below show a typical line chart.. The chart on the left shows the result when the data is entered horizontally. The one on the right shows the result when the data is entered vertically. Use line charts for trends. This chart can only be plotted using rows. Each of the data points on a horizontal row will be plotted on the same line. Variations on the standard line chart include the following: S Lines Only. Draws only the lines connecting the points in each series; does not draw the markers for each point. S Markers Only. Draws only the markers for each point; does not conlnect the markers with lines. S Drop Lines. Draws the markers for each point, and then connects the points in each category with a vertical line; does not draw lines connecting the values. Spreadsheet 180
