Mathematical Functions The arguments for mathematical functions are either numbers, field names, or addresses of cells that contain numbers. The results of these calculations are always numbers. Function Description Example ABS (value) Absolutevalue of a number. Value can be a cell =ABS(12) returns 12. ABS(-12) returns 12. or field reference. EXP (value) Value of e (the mathematical constant) raised to the power of value. The factorial is equal to 1 2 3 ... value, where value is a positive integer. If value has a fractional portion, FACT calculates the factorial for the integer portion of value. =EXP(2) returns e2 or 7.389056. FACT (value) Factorial of a number (value) =FACT(4) returns 24. =FACT(2.5) returns 2. INT (value) Value rounded to the next lowest integer. Value can be a positive or negative number, or a reference to a cell or field that contains a number. =INT(123.456) returns 123. =INT(123.567) returns 123. =INT(-123) returns -123. =INT(-123.456) returns -124. LN (value) Natural logarithm of value, using the constant =LN(2) returns 0.693147. e as a base. LN is the inverse of EXP. Value must be a positive number. LOG (value) Base 10 logarithm of value. Value must be a =LOG(100) returns 2. positive number. MOD (value, divisor) Modulus, the remainder of the division of value =MOD(147,12) returns 3. by divisor. If you attempt to divide by zero, MOD returns an error. PRODUCT (value1, value2,... ) Product of multiplication of a list of numbers (values). You can have as many arguments as you want. Value can be numbers, references, and logical values. =PRODUCT(B1:B13,2)PRODUCT(250,3,2) returns 1500. ROUND (value, places) Value rounded to the specified number of decimal places. =ROUND(12.23761,2) returns 12.24. SQRT (value) Square root of a value. Value must be a positive number. =SQRT(144) returns 12. SUM (value1, value2,... ) Total of a list of values. You can use as many arguments as you want, including values, addresses, ranges, named cells, and field names for arguments. =SUM(B3:B13) =SUM(23,45,67) returns 135. TRUNC (value) The integerportion (without rounding) of a value. =TRUNC(23.66) returns 23. Appendix 368
