Deleting Text When you cut a selection, it is placed on the clipboard. You can paste the selection from the clipboard to another location as long as you have not cut or copied another item to the clipboard. "To delete text with the mouse: 1. Select the text you want to delete. 2. Press BACKSPACE or DELETE. OR Press CUT or choose Cut from the Edit menu. "To delete text by using the keyboard: As long as no text is selected, you can use the following keystrokes to delete text: S BACKSPACE. Deletes the character to the left. S CODE + BACKSPACE. Deletes from insertion point to beginning of word. S CODE + DELETE. Deletes from insertion point to end of word. S SHIFT + CODE + BACKSPACE. Deletes from insertion point to beginning of line. S SHIFT + CODE + DELETE. Deletes from insertion point to end of line. Cutting, Copying, Pasting, and Replacing Text You can move text around within your document, as if you were cutting and pasting with scissors and glue. When you copy or cut a selection to the clipboard, it replaces whatever is currently on the clipboard. When you select text, you can cut it to move it elsewhere, or copy it to paste a replica of it in another place. The selection you copy or cut is placed on the clipboard, an electronic holding space. When you choose Paste from the Edit menu, the contents of the clipboard are pasted into the document at the insertion point. When you move a selection, you remove or cut it from its original location and paste it into another location. "To move a selection: 1. Select the item or text you want to move. 2. Choose Cut from the Edit menu or press CUT. The item is removed from yourdocument and placed on the clipboard, replacing any item already there. 3. Move the insertion point to the location where you want the item to appear. 4. Choose Paste from the Edit menu or press PASTE. The contents of the clipboard are inserted into the document, and the pasted text appears at the insertion point. Word Processing 81
