Entering Text The method for entering text described in this manual is called insert mode. In the insert mode, the characters you type appear at the insertion point, pushing all existing characters to the right to make room for the new characters. To switch in and out of insert mode, you can use the Insert button in the bottom left corner of the screen. Press INS (INS is selected by default) to turn off Insert (erasing the type underneath). Insert mode is the recommended mode because you will not lose any text unless you select it and delete it. If you want the characters you type to replace the characters to the right of the insertion point, turn the insert mode off. Word wrap means that you do not have to press ENTER (the Return key on a typewriter) to start a new line of text. As you type on the keyboard, the words appear in the text area. As words reach the end of a line, they automatically wrap down and continue on the next line. This keeps the lines and sentences together in the same paragraph. The insertion point is the blinking vertical line that indicates where the characters you type appear on the screen. On a blank page, the insertion point appears at the upperĆleft corner. While you are typing, the insertion point moves to the right, appearing after the last word. When you need to make changes to something you have already typed, you can move the insertion point anywhere in the text. You cannot move the insertion point to an area where there is no text unless you use the SPACEBAR, TAB or ENTER key. "To go to another page: Click on the Go to Page icon or choose Go to Page from the View menu. If your document has more than one page, the page you choose will appear. If your document begins on a page other than 1 (you can set it up this way in Page Setup), Go to Page will still see the first page as page 1. You can quickly, and easily move the insertion point using the mouse; if you prefer, you can use your keyboard arrows. If there is no text in the text area, you cannot move the insertion point with the mouse. You can use the SPACEBAR, the TAB key, or the ENTER key. "To move the insertion point with the mouse: 1. Move the mouse pointer to the location in the text where you want to start the insertion. 2. Click the left mouse button. The insertion point moves to the new location.
