Printing with Standard Settings If you have not set your Page Size and Page Setup to accurately reflect the actual size and layout of your document, it will not print correctly. See page 28 to define the page. The Print dialog box comes with standard settings that work well to print most documents. The standard settings assume that you want to print one copy of an entire document on 8.5" by 11" paper. If the standard settings do not meet your needs, see Changing Document Options" in this chapter. To print from the Typewriter application, see Chapter 10. "To print a document with standard settings: 1. Choose Print from the File menu. The Print dialog box appears. 2. Click on Print at the bottom of the dialog box. A message appears informingyou that your document is printing. The document prints with the standard settings. Changing Items in Print Dialog Box For color models: To save time and ink, use color ink-jet only when you require a color print. Use the black ink-jet cartridge when you want to print a preliminary draft of a color document to check for placement of graphics or to proofread it. The black ink-jet cartridge will print blacks much faster than the color ink-jet cartridge can print either black or color. The following procedure explains how to change the most common Printing Options. The application you are using determines which of these options are available to you. "To change Printer Options: 1. Choose Print from the File menu. The Print dialog box appears. 2. Fill in the dialog box, selecting from the Printer Options section as follows: S Ink: Monochrome, Color. You cannot set this button. Ensemble will automatically detect which type of ink-jet cartridge you have installed. The PDP-100J monochrome model does not have this button. S Medium. Click on the diamond to select paper or transparency. Transparencies are clear plastic sheets, also referred to as film," used for overhead presentations (see Caution on the left). For more Printer Options, click on the Options button and see the section, Changing Other Printer Options." CAUTION: When Printing Transparencies: S Use transparency film for ink-jet printers only. We recommend Lexmark transparency film for ink-jet printers, IBM ExecJet 4076 or 4076c, or Hewlett Packard #HP 51636F. S Avoid high temperature and high humidity printing . S Allow sheets to dry individually to avoid ink transfer and smudging; single sheet, manual feeding is recommended. Getting Started 47
