Diskettes CAUTION: The diskette may be inserted and removed when the power is either on or off. However, you should never insert or remove it while the LED light is on. Diskettes (floppy disks) are used for storing the documents that you create. They can also contain application programs and files such as clip art for copying and pasting into your documents. Handle them with care and observe the following: S We recommend that you buy 1.44 Mb double side/high density diskettes that are already IBM-formatted. These diskettes are ready for use and hold more information than double density diskettes. (If you use unformatted diskettes, see next chapter, File Manager" for disk formatting.) S Never open the shutter of the diskette. S Never touch the surface of the material inside of the diskette. S To remove the diskette, press the button on the disk drive. To insert a diskette LED light To remove a diskette S Never expose the diskette to extremely high or low temperatures or magnetic fields such as can be found near a television or on top of your monitor. S The diskettes have a switch that protects their contents from accidental erasure. In the READ ONLY position (moving the switch leaves a hole in the diskette cover that you can see through), a diskette can be read" but not altered in any way. In the WRITE position, the diskette can be used for saving or changing documents. Getting Started 19
