Working with Dialog Boxes A dialog box asks you for information. You can think of it as a "conversation" between you and your application. When an application needs more information from you or needs to alert you to something, a dialog box appears. There are two major types of dialog boxes: one that requires a response before you can continue; the other type stays open after you have responded to it. Two Types of Dialog Boxes Do-Not Pointer The first type of dialog box requires a response from you before you can continue. If you move the mouse pointer outside this type of dialog box, the pointer changes to a doĆnot pointer. Examples of this type of dialog box are the New/Open Dialog Box, and the dialog box that appears after you close a document that you have not saved. You cannot do anything else in the application until you respond to this type of dialog box. The second type of dialog box stays open until you close it, or exit the application. An example of this type of dialog box is the Page Size or the Page Setup dialog boxes that you may open from the File menu. Window Control Button closes the dialog box.
