15 Scanner The SC-700 Image Scanner is used to put text and images into the Scrapbook or directly into artwork that you create in Drawing or Word Processing. A wide variety of material can be scanned: photographs, maps, graphs, magazine text, documents, drawings, cartoons, and line art. Color as well as black and white images can be scanned, but the final result will only be in black and white. Using Drawing, you can edit, print, and save the image before inserting it into a document. If you are right-handed, your thumb should be placed over the start button. If you are left-handed, hold your middle finger over the start button. If the scanner is not moved for 10 seconds or longer, it goes into a "time out" mode. To restart it, select Scan from the File menu, and try the operation again. " Photo/text switch: This switch has four settings. The left-hand setting is for text or clearly defined images without shading and no need for detail. The right-hand setting is for images with various shades and many details such as photographs. The other two settings are to provide intermediate results. Experiment to find the optimal setting and to achieve desired results. The words TEXT and PHOTO are used to help you to remember which end is which. " Viewing window: The viewing window is located at the leading edge of the scanner. It can be used to see the work you are scanning when the scanning light is on. Use the window as a guide to align and position the scanner over the image. " Scanning speed indicator: This acts as a warning signal that you are scanning too fast. When the scanner is in normal operation, the light will be off. As you approach the maximum scanning speed, the light will blink. If you are scanning an image too fast, the light will come on and the image will not be scanned. Scanner 321
