4 Building Workspaces To create a Combustion workspace: 1. Choose File | New (CTRL+N). The New dialog appears. Note: You can set a preference so the New dialog appears when you start Combustion. 2. Do any of the following: • To create a Composite branch, select Composite from the Type list and define the format options and settings. • To create a Paint branch, select Paint from the Type list and define the format options and settings. • To create a Text branch, select Text from the Type list and define the format options and settings. • To create a Particles branch, select Particles from the Type list and define the format options and settings. • To create an Edit branch, select Edit from the Type list and define the format options and settings. • To create a Solid image footage, select Solid from the Type list and define the format options and settings. 3. Click OK (ENTER). To open source material into Combustion: 1. Choose File | Open (CTRL+O). The Open dialog appears. 2. Navigate to the location of the required source material, select it, and click OK (ENTER). 3. In the Open Footage dialog, do any of the following: • To import the selected footage into the workspace Footage Library, click Workspace. • To create a 2D composite branch with the selected footage, click 2D Composite. • To create a 3D composite branch with the selected footage, click 3D Composite. • To create a Paint branch for each selected piece of footage, click Paint. • To create an Edit branch with the selected footage, click Edit. • To create a Discreet Keyer branch for each selected piece of footage, click Discreet Keyer. • To create a Discreet Color Corrector branch for each selected piece of footage, click Discreet CC. 4. Click OK (ENTER). To open a Combustion workspace: 1. Choose File | Open Workspace (SHIFT+CTRL+O). The Open Workspace dialog appears. Note: You can set a preference so the Open Workspace dialog appears when you start Combustion or the last workspace file is automatically loaded when you start Combustion. The Open Workspace dialog enables you to navigate and open a workspace file. 2. Navigate to the location of the required workspace file, select it, and then click OK (ENTER). Planning Your Projects Before you begin working on a composite or other branch, think about what type of footage you need and what your final output requirements are. For instance, there is no need to work in full NTSC D1 resolution if you plan to create streaming video for a web site. For information on composite settings, see Choosing Format Options. Keep track of where the footage you use comes from. The way footage is created can affect the way it appears in a composite. For instance, if you import an animation rendered from 3ds Max, you need to set the pixel aspect ratio for the footage to "Square." Otherwise, it may appear distorted in an NTSC composite. For information, see Changing Footage Source Settings. 84

Building Workspaces

To create a Combustion workspace:

Choose File | New (

You can set a preference so the New dialog

appears when you start

Do any of the following:

To create a Composite branch, select Composite

from the Type list and define the format options

and settings.

To create a Paint branch, select Paint from the

Type list and define the format options and

settings.

•

To create a Text branch, select Text from the Type

list and define the format options and settings.

•

To create a Particles branch, select Particles from

the Type list and define the format options and

settings.

•

To create an Edit branch, select Edit from the

Type list and define the format options and

settings.

•

To create a Solid image footage, select Solid from

the Type list and define the format options and

settings.

Click OK (

To open source material into Combustion:
