20 Animating Text A Text operator is added to the composite in the Workspace panel, and a text operator node is added to the composite operator node in the Schematic view. Workspace Panel Text branch Schematic View Text operator node Adding a New Text Layer You can add a new Text layer to a composite. Creating a Text layer adds a new solid layer with a Text operator to the composite. To add a Text layer: 1. In the Workspace panel (F3), right-click the composite to which you want to add a new Text layer and choose New Layer. The New dialog appears. 2. From the Type list, select Text. 3. Set the new layer parameters. For more information, see "Creating a Paint, Text, Particles, or Edit Layer" in Chapter 5, "Compositing''. Note: If the new Text layer is set to Transparent when created, only the text (and not the solid background of the layer) is visible in the composite. If Transparent is disabled when the new Text layer is created, the text appears on the solid background in the composite. 4. Click OK. The new layer is added to the composite and the Text operator opens. Adding Text Using a Paint Operator Similarly to adding a Text operator to a layer, you can add text by applying a Paint operator to the layer. Paint has the same text tools as the Text operator, plus many other tools. To add text using a Paint operator: 1. In the Workspace panel (F3), select the layer to which you want to add the Paint operator. 2. Choose Operators | Paint, or right-click and choose Operators | Paint. Note: You can also add a Paint operator to a layer node via the Schematic view. The Paint operator opens and the Paint Controls panel appears. 3. Click Text. The Text controls appear. 4. Do one of the following: • Type directly in the Text Editor. • In the Toolbar (F2), click the Text tool and begin typing. • In the Toolbar (F2), click the Text tool , draw a text box in the viewport, and begin typing. 520
