6 Using Schematic View 2. Right-click the Schematic view and choose Emphasize Selection, or press E. Note: If Lock De-Emphasized Node is enabled in the preferences, you cannot select or move the de-emphasized nodes. To clear the emphasis on selected nodes: Right-click the Schematic view and choose Emphasize All, or press D. Output and Connection Nodes Operator nodes are the most common nodes in the Schematic view. Two other node types are output and connection nodes. Output nodes represent render outputs, and connection nodes are used for the layers of a composite. Adding Output Nodes Output nodes represent the operator outputs that you find in the Render Queue dialog. You can double-click an output node to open the Render Queue dialog. When you do this, or when you choose File | Render, output nodes are automatically added to the end of each branch. You can manually add output nodes also. This is useful for a few reasons: • To quickly add an output for a node that is not at the end of the branch. • To immediately set which preset of render settings a node's output will use. Note: You cannot copy or paste an output node, or connect another node to an output node. To add an output node: 1. Select the operator node you want to render. 2. Right-click the node, choose Add Render Output, and then choose an output preset. An output node is added after the node. 3. To render the output or change the render settings, double-click the output node. The Render Queue dialog appears, and the output for the node you double-clicked is selected in the queue. The preset you chose in step 2 is selected in the Preset list. If necessary, edit the render settings. Note: An output node is automatically added to the top operator of any branch and to any "orphan" Footage node. If you only want to render this one output, make sure you turn off the other outputs in the queue. You can also turn off the output nodes in the Schematic view. For more information on rendering, see Chapter 31, "Rendering''. To remove an output node: Select the output node and press DELETE, or rightclick and choose Delete or Cut. Displaying Connection and Layer Nodes You can show or hide the main and secondary connection nodes for any operator. To show the connection nodes: Double-click the input of the node. The connection node is displayed. 182

Right-click the Schematic view and choose

Note:

If Lock De-Emphasized Node is enabled in

the preferences, you cannot select or move the

Output and Connection Nodes

Operator nodes are the most common nodes in the

Schematic view. Two other node types are output

and connection nodes. Output nodes represent

render outputs, and connection nodes are used for

the layers of a composite.

Adding Output Nodes

Output nodes represent the operator outputs that

you find in the Render Queue dialog.

You can double-click an output node to open the

Render Queue dialog. When you do this, or when

you choose File | Render, output nodes are

automatically added to the end of each branch.

You can manually add output nodes also. This is

useful for a few reasons:

•

To quickly add an output for a node that is not at the

end of the branch.

To immediately set which preset of render settings

a node’s output will use.

Note:

You cannot copy or paste an output node, or

connect another node to an output node.

To add an output node:

Select the operator node you want to render.

Right-click the node, choose Add Render

Output, and then choose an output preset.
