Working with Emitter Libraries ❚❘❘ About IEL Files You can load an Illusion Emitter Library (IEL) file into the Particles operator; it is immediately converted to an ELC file. You cannot save a library as an IEL file from within Combustion. The Library menu only shows Emitter Library for Combustion (ELC) files. If you copy an IEL file into the Particle Libraries folder as you work in the Particles operator, it is automatically converted to an ELC file, the IEL file is deleted, and this message displays: The particle libraries folder contains older emitter libraries. They have been updated. Organizing Emitters in a Library You can drag and drop emitters from folder to folder in the current library. The emitter is placed below the emitter or folder you drop it on. After you select a library emitter, you can duplicate it. You can also delete it-a warning appears when you delete a folder. You can also make new folders. For more information, see Library Controls. Adding an Emitter to the Library You can add a copy of an emitter object in its current state to the emitter library. To add an emitter to the library: 1. In the Library controls, select the folder (or an emitter in the folder) where you want to save the emitter. 2. Select an emitter object in the Workspace panel or in the viewport. 3. Click Add Current to Library. The emitter is added to the library. Its particle types, emitter properties and transforms (Rotation and Size only), and all keyframe animation is saved with the emitter. Loading and Saving Libraries You can load an ELC file using the Load Library button. If the library file is saved in the Particle Libraries folder, you can also choose it from the Library menu to load it. If the current library has been changed in any way (new emitters added, a name changed, emitters reordered, and so on), it is saved before the next library is loaded. Libraries are also saved automatically when you close the workspace file. To load a library: 1. In the Particle Controls panel, click Library to show the Library controls. 2. Click Load Library. The Load Emitter Library dialog appears. 3. Find and select the library file, and click OK. The selected library becomes the current one. Once an emitter object is added to the clip, it is independent of the library from which it originated; you can load another library without affecting any emitters in the viewport. To save a library with a different name or location: 1. In the Particle Controls panel, click Library to show the Library controls. 2. Click Save Library As. The Save Emitter Library dialog appears. 3. Enter a filename and location, and click OK. Creating Libraries For organizational reasons and memory restrictions, it is not a good idea to create one huge library that contains all your emitters. Create separate libraries for different types of emitters, and load them when needed. When you create a library, it is saved in the Particle Libraries folder. Since a library cannot be empty, the 361

About IEL Files

You can load an Illusion Emitter Library (IEL) file

into the Particles operator; it is immediately

converted to an ELC file. You cannot save a library as

an IEL file from within

Adding an Emitter to the Library

Select an emitter object in the Workspace panel

or in the viewport.

Click Add Current to Library.
