20 Animating Text Adjusting the Softness Use Softness to adjust the softness of the text object. The Softness setting applies to the Solid, Gradient and Texture options of the text object. To adjust the opacity of a text object: 1. Select the text object. 2. Enter a value in the Opacity field. Note: You can also apply a separate color gradient to the Outline attribute. 3. In the Face controls, click Gradient. The Gradient controls appear. Creating Text Gradients You can create color and opacity gradients for the Face and Outlines attributes of a text object. The gradient controls in the Text operator are identical to the gradient controls in the Paint operator, with one exception. In the Paint operator, you can apply different gradient types (linear, radial, radial sweep, and spiral) whereas in the Text operator, you can apply only the linear gradient type but you can set the gradient angle. For more information, see "Creating Gradients" in Chapter 18, "Paint: Advanced Drawing Tools''. Note: The gradient colors, position and opacity can be animated.
