12 Creating Animations The tangent handle breaks at the control point and you can adjust the shape of the curve on either side of the control point. of all animated channels in the workspace. Before you keyframe other categories, you should be familiar with the Timeline. Use the Timeline to view and edit all keyframes. The Timeline is divided in three parts: • Timeline list: lists all the layers, objects, effects, and keyframes in the current branch or composite. • Timeline view: depicts layers, objects, effects, and keyframes over time in Graph or Overview mode. • Timeline controls: control various aspects of the Timeline view and animation. Note: Once a handle is broken, you no longer have to hold down CTRL. • To smooth out broken tangent handles, CTRL-drag either of the tangent handles. • To snap a tangent handle (broken or unbroken) in increments of 45 degrees, SHIFT-drag the tangent handle. Timeline Overview While a motion path illustrates how a layer moves in the animation, the Timeline provides an overall view Resizing the Timeline If you need more space to manipulate your animation channels and keyframes, there are several methods to resize the Timeline window. To resize the Timeline: Do any of the following: • Choose Window | Palettes | Expand Timeline, or press SHIFT+F11. This quickly rearranges the screen layout to increase the vertical size of the Timeline and decrease the size of the viewports. Choose this command again to return to the default screen layout.
