2 Welcome to Combustion You can view grids, guides, and rulers independently for each viewport, and your configuration is saved with the workspace. However, they are for display only and will not be output when you render your clip. The style and properties of grid lines, guides, and rulers can be configured in the user preferences. For more information, see Setting Grids and Guides Preferences. To view grids, guides, and rulers: 1. Select the required viewport. 2. Choose Window | Grids, Guides and Ruler and select one of the following options, as required. Choose Show Ruler Show Grid Show Guide Show All Hide All To View or hide the rulers. View or hide the grid. View or hide the guides. View grids, guides, and rulers. Hide grids, guides, and rulers. Note: The Grids, Guide and Ruler menu is also available via the viewport context menu. See also "Viewport Hot Keys" in Appendix A, "Keyboard Shortcuts''. To create guides: 1. Select the a viewport and display the rulers if they are not already. Note: The rulers must be displayed to create guides. However, once you have created them, you can show and hide them independently of the rulers. 2. Position the cursor on either the top ruler (to create a horizontal guide) or the left ruler (to create a vertical guide). The cursor indicates you will create a guide. 3. Do either of the following: • Click and drag in the viewport to position the guide. New guide Snapping Objects to the Grid and Guides When using the Paint operator, you can choose to automatically align, or snap, Paint objects to the grid and guides. Snapping to the grid and guides is not available in operators other than Paint. For more information, see Aligning Objects. • Double-click and enter the location where you want to create the guide in the Go To Pixel dialog and then click OK (ENTER). Using Guides You can create as many guides as required for your project, reposition them as needed, or lock them to prevent their being inadvertently moved. 4. Repeat steps 2-3 for each guide you want to create. You can create an unlimited number of guides in each viewport. 42

Welcome to Combustion

You can view grids, guides, and rulers independently

for each viewport, and your configuration is saved

with the workspace. However, they are for display

only and will not be output when you render your

clip.

The style and properties of grid lines, guides, and

rulers can be configured in the user preferences. For

Preferences

To view grids, guides, and rulers:

Select the required viewport.

Choose Window | Grids, Guides and Ruler and

select one of the following options, as required.

Note:

The Grids, Guide and Ruler menu is also

available via the viewport context menu. See also

Snapping Objects to the Grid and

Guides

When using the Paint operator, you can choose to

automatically align, or

snap

, Paint objects to the grid

and guides. Snapping to the grid and guides is not

available in operators other than Paint.

Using Guides

You can create as many guides as required for your

project, reposition them as needed, or lock them to

prevent their being inadvertently moved.

To create guides:

Select the a viewport and display the rulers if they

are not already.

Note:

The rulers must be displayed to create

guides. However, once you have created them,

you can show and hide them independently of

the rulers.

Position the cursor on either the top ruler (to

create a horizontal guide) or the left ruler (to

create a vertical guide).

The cursor

indicates you will create a guide.

Do either of the following:
