Setting Preferences ❚❘❘ Default Still Image Duration-When you open a still image into a Paint, Discreet Keyer, or Discreet Color Corrector operator, or the Footage Library, this value determines the default duration of the footage and operator. For details, see "Creating Paint Branches" in Chapter 4, "Building Workspaces''. Note: If you import a still image, the default duration is set to the duration of the composite instead of this Preference setting. However, the setting is used if you bring it in using the Open command, and create a Paint, Keyer, or Color Corrector operator from the still image. Cineon Import Behavior-When you import Cineon files, they can be automatically converted to linear format. For more information, see "Converting Cineon Files to Linear" in Chapter 22, "Working with Bit Depth''. Conversion Depth-When you import Cineon files, they can be automatically converted to 8, 10, 12, 16, or float. Photoshop Import Behavior-When you import Adobe Photoshop files, you can choose to import color and alpha or color. DPX Export Behavior-This value is used to set the size of the user Header in a .dpx file for compatibility reasons. Setting Footage Library Preferences Use the Footage Library preferences to customize how thumbnails are displayed in the Footage Library view. For details, see "Displaying Footage Information" in Chapter 6, "Using Schematic View'' and "Using the Footage Overview" in Chapter 6, "Using Schematic View''. Setting Footage Import Preferences By default, opening footage into a new composite creates a composite that conforms to the frame rate, pixel aspect ratio, and field order of the first footage file opened. You can override this behavior for any of these options. To set footage import preferences: Under the Footage category, click the Sequence category. The Sequence preferences appear. To change the default behavior for a setting, enable an override and choose from one of the preset options, or enter a custom value. Setting Paint Preferences Use the Paint preferences to control various aspects when working with a Paint project, including modifying the size of the render cache. In Paint, objects are drawn on top of other objects. When you modify an object created earlier in the pipeline, all objects occurring after must be redrawn to display the correct information. The render cache pre-draws objects in memory to increase the speed of screen updates. To set the Paint preferences: 1. In the Paint category, select General. The Paint options appear. 55

Default Still Image Duration

—When you open a

still image into a Paint, Discreet Keyer, or Discreet

Color Corrector operator, or the Footage Library,

this value determines the default duration of the

footage and operator. For details, see

“Creating Paint

Branches” in Chapter 4, “Building Workspaces’’

Note:

If you import a still image, the default duration

is set to the duration of the composite instead of this

Preference setting. However, the setting is used if

you bring it in using the Open command, and create

a Paint, Keyer, or Color Corrector operator from the

still image.

Cineon Import Behavior

—When you import

Cineon files, they can be automatically converted to

linear format. For more information, see

“Converting Cineon Files to Linear” in Chapter 22,

“Working with Bit Depth’’

Conversion Depth—

When you import Cineon

files, they can be automatically converted to 8, 10,

12, 16, or float.

Photoshop Import Behavior—

When you import

Adobe Photoshop files, you can choose to import

DPX Export Behavior—

compatibility reasons.

Setting Footage Library Preferences

Use the Footage Library preferences to customize
