17 Paint: Drawing Basics Four Paint objects with Outlines Only disabled Four Paint objects with Outlines Only enabled Aligning Objects When using the Paint operator, you can choose to automatically align, or snap, Paint objects to the grid, the guides or both-the grid and guides. Note: Snapping to the grid and guides is not available in operators other than Paint. As you work, objects placed within a certain distance of the grid or a guide (the snap tolerance) automatically snap to the grid or guide(s). When editing objects, the edges of the object, not the bounding box, snap to the grid or guide(s). Note: For information on setting the snap tolerance, see "Setting Grids and Guides Preferences" in Chapter 2, "Welcome to Combustion''. To snap objects to the grid and guides: 1. Make sure the current operator is a Paint operator. 2. Choose Window | Grids, Guides and Ruler | Show Ruler (SHIFT+L). 3. Choose Window | Grids, Guides and Ruler | Show Grid (SHIFT+G). 4. Choose Window | Grids, Guides and Ruler | Show Guides (SHIFT+U). Note: The Grids, Guide and Ruler menu is also available via the viewport context menu. 5. Position your cursor in either the top ruler (to create a horizontal guide) or the left ruler (to create a vertical guide). The cursor changes to . 6. Create guides by doing either of the following: • Click and drag in the viewport to position the guide. • Double click and enter the location where you want to create the guide in the Go To Pixel dialog and then click OK (or press ENTER. Note: For more information, see "Using Grids, Guides, and Rulers" in Chapter 2, "Welcome to Combustion''. 7. Choose Window | Grids, Guides, and Ruler and enable the following options, as required. Choose Snap to Grid ( CTRL+SHIFT+G) Snap to Guides ( CTRL+SHIFT+U) Snap All Snap None To Snap objects to the grid lines. Snap objects to the guides. Snap to the grids and guides. Disable snapping. 8. Select an object in the viewport. 468
