Using Selection Modifier Objects ❚❘❘ The different objects are explained in the following sections. Twirl filter applied to a selection made by intersecting an elliptical and a rectangular selection. Note: In the Timeline and Workspace panel, added, subtracted, or intersected selections are differentiated from regular selections by a symbol after the name of the selection object. A (+) indicates an added selection, a (-) indicates a subtracted selection, and an (x) indicates an intersected selection. Using Selection Modifier Objects Selection modifier objects can be added to the selection operator to modify, activate, or deactivate existing selections. These objects do not appear in the viewport, and are added to the top of the operator in the Workspace panel or Timeline. Some actions create a selection modifier automatically. For example, if you copy and paste the active selection when all objects are deselected, a Remove Selection object is created below the Pasted Image object. You can also manually add selection modifier objects to control the effect of multilayered selections. There are five menu selection commands available to create them: Invert, Feather, Expand, Contract, and Remove Selection. All selection modifier objects can be moved to affect different selections in the operator, or deleted entirely. Invert Selection This object inverts the entire active selection. The difference between the Invert object and the Invert check box in the selection controls is that the check box affects only one selection object, whereas the Invert object affects the entire active selection, which can be the result of several selection objects. For example, if you create several selection shapes, each interacting with each other using the Add/ Subtract/Intersect modes, you can invert the result of these selections with the Selection | Invert object, and get a result which would not be possible by trying to invert the individual objects. Once you invert a selection, everything but the original selection is selected. This is useful for applying effects to all but a specific area in a clip. Rather than trying to use a combined selection to select all but the specific area, select the specific area and then invert the selection.
