Ranges Controls ❚❘❘ Ranges Controls Use these controls to redefine what constitutes a shadow, midtone, or highlight. Normally a shadow is approximately in the range of 0-85, but you can redefine this with the Ranges controls. Note: There is no handle to redefine midtones because, as you manipulate the shadow and highlight handles, the midtones are adjusted accordingly. Defining Tonal Ranges To display the curves for the three tonal ranges, click the Ranges button in the Color Correction Controls panel. To redefine highlights: Drag the right tangent handle next to the H. To redefine shadows: Drag the left tangent handle next to the S. To see the effects of the curves on color balance: 1. Go to the Color controls. 2. Using Hue Tint and Strength, adjust the color balance for each of the Shadow, Midtone, and Highlight ranges. Note the effect that these adjustments have on the image. 3. Go to the Ranges controls and adjust the curves. 4. Go back to the Color controls. Without changing the color balance setup, note that the resulting image is different from that in step 1. The difference is the result of the changes that you made to the curves for the shadows, midtones, and highlights. Importing and Exporting Color Corrector Setups The Color Corrector setups you create in Combustion are compatible with the Color Corrector setups in the following Autodesk systems: Flint, Flame, Inferno, Smoke, and Fire. Keep in mind that exported setup files only store attributes that are compatible with the Color Corrector operator in the Autodesk Advanced Systems products. For example, setups do not save modifications to the HLS curves, and Bezier and Cubic interpolation cannot be saved. To save these settings for export to an Autodesk system, use the Hermite/Flame interpolation method. Ranges Controls Shadows curve Highlights curve 657
