Setting Image Sequence Options If you render a sequence of still images rather than a single movie clip, you can control the numbering of the sequence and avoid re-rendering existing files in the sequence. The following format options create image sequences: Quantel VPB Sequence, BMP Sequence, Cineon Sequence, DPX Sequence, JPEG Sequence, Photoshop Sequence, PICT Sequence (Macintosh only), PNG Sequence, RLA/RPF Sequence, SGI Sequence, Softimage Sequence, Targa Sequence, and TIFF Sequence. To set image sequence options: 1. On the Output Settings panel, select an image sequence format from the Format list. The image sequence options become available. 2. Enable Force Starting Frame # to set the number in the filename of the first image sequence file. Enter the number in the adjacent field. The numbering of the sequence will begin at this number. Note: You can pad the number in filenames as required. For example, you can enter File[#####].tga to make TARGA images with five numbers, for example, File00012.tga. 3. Enable Skip Existing Files to prevent rerendering of existing frames. This option is useful when you want to use several computers to render one sequence (network rendering). For information, see Network and Batch Rendering. Encoding with Cleaner After an output is rendered, you can automatically encode your media into various output formats using Cleaner. This feature requires that either Cleaner or Backburner is installed on your system. Otherwise, the option will be disabled in the Render Queue. If you have Cleaner installed on your system, you can choose to encode your files locally. You can also encode them remotely using Backburner. However, if you are encoding remotely, Cleaner must be available somewhere on the Backburner network. To use this feature, make sure to render your Combustion pouts into an input format that is supported by Cleaner. The following formats can be rendered in Combustion as well as supported by Cleaner: QuickTime, Video for Windows, BMP, JPG, Photoshop, PNG, SGI, TGA, and TIF. Before encoding your rendered file, Cleaner creates a Job, which contains the complete set of processing instructions, and saves it in your My Documents folder. You can later open these Jobs in Cleaner to, for example, check on the status of the Job, resubmit it, or view the error log. Note: Backburner also provides status information on whether the Job was successfully encoded or not. If a Job fails, an error message appears. However, no incremental progress information is available. Any failed Jobs are left in the Job Queue, and are not deleted. This gives you the ability to modify the parameters of a faulty Job and resubmit it if necessary. If you are rendering an image sequence, Cleaner encodes them by creating a .imsq file to define the filename pattern, first and last frames of the sequence, and the framerate.
