13 Creating Expressions • CTRL-click the triangle next to an operator in the Timeline to display all the channels of the operator. • Click the triangle next to a layer in the Timeline to view the layer's category, then click the triangle next to a layer's category to view its channels. • Click the triangle next to an operator in the Timeline to view the operator's category, then click the triangle next to an operator's category to view its channels. Note: To hide all the channels, double-click the triangle next to the top branch. To hide all the channels of a layer or operator, double-click the triangle next to the layer or operator. To filter channels or create filter presets, see "Filtering the Timeline" in Chapter 12, "Creating Animations''. Adding an Expression to a Channel You can either add an expression to a channel based on the channel's value, add an expression to a channel to link its value to the target channel, add a predefined expression, or write your own expression. If you later rename a channel, any expressions that reference it will be updated automatically. To add an expression: Do any of the following: • Right-click a channel in the Timeline and choose Add Expression. When an expression is applied to a channel, the key icon is replaced by the expression icon. Expression icon An expression is added to the channel based on the channel's value. The Multi-line Editor is displayed and the expression script is selected. • Select a channel in the Timeline, click a Link button, and select another channel in the Timeline. 312
