Timeline Overview ❚❘❘ • If your monitor has extra room between the viewports and the bottom menu area, choose File | Preferences (CTRL+;) and under the Host category, click Monitors and then set the Menu Height to a higher number. This provides more space for the Timeline. • If you have multiple monitors, you can configure them so that the Timeline is full-screen on one monitor while you work on views and controls in another window. See "Setting Preferences" in Chapter 2, "Welcome to Combustion''. • Click the Timeline tab to display the Timeline, and then click and drag the tab to detach it from the bottom of the screen as a floating window. You can then resize the Timeline window as you would any other window. To return it to the default location, double-click the Timeline tab or drag it back to the bottom of the screen and release the mouse. It snaps back into place. Navigating in the Timeline Hierarchy When you access the Timeline, the layers and categories displayed depend on what is selected in the Workspace panel. For instance, if a composite is selected, then in the Timeline you see the layers in that composite. If a layer is selected, you see that layer's categories. You can move up in the Timeline hierarchy to view different layers, composites, and branches as you would in the Workspace panel. This allows you to see more detail in the Timeline. Navigating to a Specific Level Most of the time, you navigate through the layers and operators in the workspace using the Workspace panel. However, you can also use the Timeline menu to navigate to any level in your workspace. Timeline menu For instance, if you are working on a layer's categories, but want to work on another layer, click the Timeline menu and choose composite. All layers in the composite appear in the Timeline and you can adjust any categories as needed. Navigating One Level at a Time You can move up one level at a time in the Timeline hierarchy by clicking the Up Arrow above the Timeline menu. You can also press CTRL+SHIFT+UP ARROW. Up Arrow Filtering the Timeline You can choose to display only certain channels in the timeline, filtering out those that are not needed for your current task. 277
