33 Advanced Topics Configuring Channel Parameters Configure the channel parameters to define how the controller will behave. For example, you can define the minimum and maximum values that can be set for the option, and whether it will be a slider or a cycle control. When you add a controller, the channel parameters are set to the system default until you configure them. If you create a controller from an existing channel, the parameters will match those of the cloned channel. In either case, you can modify them at any time. To configure channel parameters: 1. In the Capsule Controls panel, click Controllers. 2. Select the controller in the Controls tree. 3. In the Min and Max fields, enter the internal minimum and internal maximum values of the originating channel. For example, say you are creating a controller (called Gain) to expose the Red Gain channel of an Add Grain operator. The Red Gain channel has a minimum value of 0 and a maximum value of 10. Therefore, set the channel parameters for the Gain controller by entering 0 in the Min field and 10 in the Max field. The Red Gain channel will be exposed through the Gain controller. This effectively becomes the minimum and maximum settings for all channels that are linked to the controller (unless a channel has a smaller range). 4. Select the number of digits to add after the decimal point. Additional decimal places allow for fine-tuning of the controller settings. 5. Select a unit of measurement from the Units list. You can choose percentage (%) or degrees (°). If you choose No Units, the controller will be numeric. 6. Enter values in the Gain and Offset fields to scale and offset the controller value in relation to the internal channel value. In the example used in step 3, the internal values of the Red Gain channel were 0 and 10, and the controller Min and Max fields were set accordingly. If you want the Gain controller to display this same range of values, you would enter 1 in the Gain field and 0 in the Offset field, since there is no need to scale or offset the controller. As another example, if the originating channel had internal minimum and maximum values of 0 and 1 but you wanted the controller to display 0%-100%, you would use the following settings: Min=0, Max=1, Gain=100, and Offset=0. 840

Configuring Channel Parameters

Configure the channel parameters to define how the

controller will behave. For example, you can define

the minimum and maximum values that can be set

for the option, and whether it will be a slider or a

cycle control.

When you add a controller, the channel parameters

are set to the system default until you configure

them. If you create a controller from an existing

channel, the parameters will match those of the

cloned channel. In either case, you can modify them

at any time.

To configure channel parameters:

In the Capsule Controls panel, click Controllers.

Select the controller in the Controls tree.

In the Min and Max fields, enter the internal

minimum and internal maximum values of the

originating channel.

For example, say you are creating a controller
