4 Building Workspaces associated with a workspace, Combustion searches your system to try and locate the missing footage. If the footage is not found, you are prompted to replace it. You can either navigate to the new location of the missing footage, or select new footage entirely. To replace missing footage: 1. Choose File | Open Workspace (SHIFT+CTRL+O). If Combustion cannot locate a piece of footage, you are prompted to replace it. 2. Click Yes to replace the footage. The Open dialog appears. Note: If you choose to open the workspace without replacing the missing footage, a Missing File image replaces the missing footage in the viewports. You can replace it later in the Footage Controls panel. 3. Navigate to the replacement file, and then click Open. The missing footage is replaced by the newlyspecified footage. Note: You can select the original footage from a new location, or choose different footage entirely. You can also replace footage using public paths. For information, see "Setting Up Input/Output Folders" in Chapter 32, "Network Rendering''. Importing a Workspace You can import the branches and footage from any workspace into the current workspace. This is useful for reusing effects in multiple jobs. For example, you can create a template composite where one solid layer flies in as another exits, then save the workspace. When you want to use this transition effect again, import the workspace and replace the solid layers with footage. To import a workspace: 1. Choose File | Import Workspace (SHIFT+CTRL+I). The Import Workspace dialog appears. Note: You must have a workspace open to access this menu option. 2. Navigate to the directory that contains the workspace you want to open, select the workspace, and then click OK (ENTER). All the branches of the selected workspace are added at the top of the Workspace panel. 3. If necessary, you can use the copy, paste, or nesting tools to copy operators from the new branches into the other branches. For more information, see Chapter 5, "Compositing''. You can also link the nodes in the Schematic view. For information, see Chapter 6, "Using Schematic View''. Importing Footage After you create a composite, you can import footage in several different ways. Normally, you import clips or image sequences. You can also import still images with a pre-defined duration. When you import footage into a composite, a new layer is created. The layer contains one operator- the Footage operator. 98
