14 Creating Particle Effects new library includes a folder named New Emitter Folder that contains one emitter named New Emitter Type. This emitter has one particle type named "New Particle Type," which uses the default shape, a 32 x 32 gray square. A backup copy of the library is automatically saved. It uses the BAK extension and cannot be loaded; you first need to rename the file in the Particle Libraries folder. To create a library: 1. In the Particle Controls panel, click Library to show the Library controls. 2. Choose New Emitter Library from the Library menu. The New Library Name dialog appears. 3. Enter a filename and click OK. A new, blank library appears. The filename appears beside the top folder. Deleting Libraries When you delete the current library, the library file is deleted from disk. It does not matter if the library is in the Particle Libraries folder or not. After the current library is deleted, the first library in the Library menu list is loaded. If no libraries are in the list (if there are none in the Particle Libraries folder), a new library is created. You can also delete library files using the appropriate Windows commands. To delete the current library: 1. In the Particle Controls panel, click Library to show the Library controls. 2. Choose Delete Emitter Library from the Library menu. A confirmation message appears. 3. Click OK. The ELC file is deleted. Modifying Library Emitters Usually, you modify emitter objects in the viewport and Particle Controls panel and then copy them back to a library. See Working with Emitter Objects. You can also edit an emitter in the library, but you cannot change its particle types. Instead, you edit the emitter properties (and transforms) and preview the emitter changes. Afterwards, you can save the changes to the library with the Update Emitter button; changes are not saved until you do this. You may want to try a few changes to a library emitter before adding it to the clip. For example, you can change the shape from Area to Point to see if one emission point looks good in the Particles preview. Note: If you want to change the particle types of a library emitter, you need to add the emitter to the viewport first. Then, you can save the modified emitter to the library by clicking Add Current to Library in the Library controls. (You may want to delete the emitter object from the viewport.) To modify a library emitter: 1. Click Library to show the Library controls. 2. Select an emitter in the library. 3. Make sure the Particles preview is enabled. If Enable Preview is turned off, you cannot see changes you make. 4. Click Emitter to show the Emitter controls. See Emitter Controls. 362

Note:
