15 Editing Clips The footage is added between the in and out points in the Edit timeline. If the clip duration is longer than the segment duration, the remaining frames are available as tail frames. Editing Clips Once you have added clips to the Edit timeline, you can move, delete, or replace them to create the final sequence. You can also modify the clips by trimming, slipping, and sliding the head and tail frames to achieve the required effect. Selecting Frames in the Timeline To edit frames in the Edit timeline, you must first select the frame(s) you want to edit. To select a range of frames: 1. Drag the Current Time indicator at the first frame and enable the Mark In button. 2. Move the indicator to the last frame, and then enable the Mark Out button. The range of frames is highlighted. Selected frames Selecting Segments in the Timeline You can select a single segment, or select multiple segments to delete them. Note: You can only delete multiple segments. All other editing operations must be performed on single segments. To select a segment: Click a segment in the Edit timeline. The selected segment is highlighted. To select multiple segments: CTRL-click each segment. The selected segments are highlighted. To deselect the range of frames: Disable the Mark In and Mark Out buttons. Showing the Length of a Segment Before you make changes to a segment, you can display the total length of the segment in the Edit timeline, including the head and tail frames. Knowing where the head and tail frames extend can be useful especially if you plan to add transitions. To show the length of a segment: Press CTRL and click a segment. The total length of the segment is displayed by a semi-transparent bar under the segment. 392
