21 Using Filters Magnifying Glass Use Magnifying Glass to make your image look as though it is being viewed through a glass lens. Use this filter to create controlled warping effects; for example, to make a still image of a flag look like it is flowing in the wind, apply a Displace filter to the still image, using footage of flowing satin as a source. Layer-Selects a layer to use as a displacement map. Channel X-Determines which channel from the source layer is used to offset the pixels along the Xaxis. Channel Y-Determines which channel from the source layer is used to offset the pixels along the Yaxis. Scale X-Sets the maximum value that pixels move in the X direction. Scale Y-Sets the maximum value that pixels move in the Y direction. Offset X-Specifies the initial movement of the current layer's pixels in the X direction. Increasing the offset increases the range of the Scale X property. Offset Y-Specifies the initial movement of the current layer's pixels in the Y direction. Increasing the offset increases the range of the Scale Y property. Flip Use Flip to flip an image horizontally, vertically, or both. Amount-Determines how much the image is magnified. If you move the Amount slider to the left and choose a negative value, your selection looks as though it is farther away, just like viewing an object through the "wrong" end of a telescope. Conversely, positive values cause your image to appear closer to the viewer. Scale-Controls the size of the circular area around the center point affected by the amount of magnification you have chosen. Aspect-Controls the aspect ratio of the horizontal and vertical diameters of your magnifying glass. Center-Sets the point about which the effect is calculated. You can use the Set Position button to set the center. Direction-Magnifies your selection in only one direction rather than two. Select Horizontal or Vertical instead of the default Both in the Direction list. This has the added effect of squaring off the filter's corners. Resize Image-Extends the effect past the edges of the layer. 562

Using Filters

Use this filter to create controlled warping effects; for

example, to make a still image of a flag look like it is

flowing in the wind, apply a Displace filter to the still

image, using footage of flowing satin as a source.

Layer

—Selects a layer to use as a displacement map.

Channel X

—Determines which channel from the

source layer is used to offset the pixels along the X-

axis.

Channel Y

—Determines which channel from the

source layer is used to offset the pixels along the Y-

axis.

Scale X

—Sets the maximum value that pixels move

in the X direction.

Scale Y

—Sets the maximum value that pixels move

in the Y direction.

Offset X

—Specifies the initial movement of the

current layer’s pixels in the X direction. Increasing

the offset increases the range of the Scale X property.

Offset Y

—Specifies the initial movement of the

current layer’s pixels in the Y direction. Increasing

the offset increases the range of the Scale Y property.

Flip

Use Flip to flip an image horizontally, vertically, or

both.

Magnifying Glass

Amount

—Determines how much the image is

magnified. If you move the Amount slider to the left
