Using the Mask Tools ❚❘❘ The selected layer is loaded into the mask operator. 3. In the Workspace panel (F3), double-click the Draw Mask operator. 4. Show the Toolbar (F2). 5. In the Toolbar, click the Freehand Mask tool and enable Make Curve. 9. Click the Back button to return to the composite and see the results of the masking operation. Note: To refine the edges of the freehand mask with control points after you finish drawing it, you should enable Make Curve before drawing the mask. (If you forget, you can select the freehand mask object, then choose Object | Make Curve.) 6. In the viewport, draw the mask around the subject you want to isolate. Note: Make sure Invert is disabled if you want the mask to remove the area outside the mask shape and keep the area inside the mask shape. 7. To refine the mask, select it, then click the Edit Control Points tool . Control points appear around the mask. 8. Refine the mask as needed. Elliptical Masks Use the elliptical mask to mask out an elliptical portion on the current layer. In the following example, an elliptical mask is used to partially isolate the subject (Little Mermaid) from its original background and composite it over the back layer. To draw an elliptical mask: 1. Select the front layer (the layer to which you want to add a mask). 2. Choose Operators | Mask | Elliptical Mask. The mask operator opens and a default size elliptical mask is added to the layer. 3. In the Workspace panel (F3), double-click the Elliptical Mask object. 4. In the Toolbar (F2), click the Arrow tool . 5. In the viewport, use the bounding box to adjust the size and rotation of the elliptical mask. For more information, see "Editing Object Transform Properties" in Chapter 17, "Paint: Drawing Basics''. 6. Click the Back button to return to the composite and see the results of the masking operation. Note: To switch back to the mask operator to make more adjustments, click the Forward button.
