16 Introduction to Paint Use the Modes controls to set an object's opacity, change the draw mode of paint objects, the color of objects, create gradients, and perform revealing and cloning. Use the Modes controls with selection and mask tools to create opacity for selections and masks, specify how selections and masks are combined, and to feather selections and masks. Opacity Slider Use the Opacity slider to control the opacity of objects in the Paint operator. You can also change an object's opacity in the Timeline. The Opacity slider controls the same parameter, but provides easier access to its controls. The opacity parameter, like all parameters in Combustion, can be animated either by adding keyframes or by adding an expression. To change an object's opacity: 1. Select the object using the Arrow tool . 2. In the Modes controls, click and drag the Opacity slider. The opacity appears above the center of the slider and the object is updated in the viewport. Set opacity to 100% to make the object completely opaque. Set opacity to 0% to make the object completely transparent. Color Picker Tool Use to pick a color from any operator in the viewports or from one of the color panels to replace the current foreground or background color. Modes List The Modes list changes depending on the tool you pick: • For Paint objects, use the items in the Modes list to select a draw mode. For information on the draw modes, see Draw Modes. • For selection and mask objects, use the items in the Modes list to specify how objects are combined. For more information on combining selections, see "Adding, Subtracting, and Intersecting Selections" in Chapter 19, "Paint: Drawing Selections''.
