Video Filters ❚❘❘ Using the Deinterlace Operator You can turn a field-based clip into a frame-based clip using the Deinterlace operator. Deinterlace Controls Use the Deinterlace controls to determine how the field-separated (or merged) frames are filled, the field order of the deinterlaced clip, and whether a deinterlaced clip retains its original frame rate. Note: When using the Deinterlace and Interlace operators, ensure that you have No Fields selected in the Field Separation settings for the Footage operator. Convert-Sets the type of deinterlacing for the clip. The two deinterlacing options are Fields to Frames and Remove Fields. When Fields to Frames is selected, the interlaced frames are separated into frames consisting of separate upper and lower fields. When Remove Fields is selected, the upper or lower scanline is thrown out when Fill with Black, Duplicate, or Interpolate is selected from the Method list. If Merge is selected from the Method list, the two fields are averaged. Method-When Convert is set to Fields to Frames, the method determines how the missing field information in each frame is treated. When Convert is set to Remove Fields, the method determines how the fields are combined. Field Order-Determines the field order of the deinterlacing method. In general, it should be set to the field order of the clip. Level-Sets the percentage of blending between the selected field separation method and the original interlaced fields. Retain Frame Rate-Retains the frame rate of the source clip. To use the Fields to Frames convert option: 1. In the Workspace panel (F3), right-click the layer you want to deinterlace and choose Operators | Video | Deinterlace. The Deinterlace Controls panel appears. Note: Make sure No Fields is selected in the Field Separation settings in the Footage Controls panel. 2. From the Convert list, select Fields to Frames. Fields to Frames separates each field of a frame into its own frame. The result clip is twice as long as the original clip. Note: You can see this in the Timeline (in Overview mode). If you make the Deinterlace operator the current operator, you can also switch to Local Time to see that there are twice as many frames. 3. From the Field Order list, select Upper First or Lower First. For information, see Determining Field Order. 4. From the Method list, select one of the following: Select Fill with Black To Fill the scanlines that separate the fields in each frame with black. If Upper First is selected, the first frame in the result clip consists of the upper field's scanlines, and black horizontal lines where the lower field was before the clip was deinterlaced. The second frame in the result clip consists of the lower field's scanlines, and black horizontal lines. The following frame consists of the next upper field, and black horizontal lines, and so on. 581

Using the Deinterlace Operator

You can turn a field-based clip into a frame-based

clip using the Deinterlace operator.

Deinterlace Controls

Use the Deinterlace controls to determine how the

field-separated (or merged) frames are filled, the

field order of the deinterlaced clip, and whether a

deinterlaced clip retains its original frame rate.

Note:

When using the Deinterlace and Interlace

operators, ensure that you have No Fields selected in

the Field Separation settings for the Footage

operator.

Convert

—Sets the type of deinterlacing for the clip.

The two deinterlacing options are Fields to Frames

and Remove Fields. When Fields to Frames is

selected, the interlaced frames are separated into

frames consisting of separate upper and lower fields.

When Remove Fields is selected, the upper or lower

scanline is thrown out when Fill with Black,

Duplicate, or Interpolate is selected from the

Method list. If Merge is selected from the Method

list, the two fields are averaged.

Method

—When Convert is set to Fields to Frames,

the method determines how the missing field

information in each frame is treated. When Convert

is set to Remove Fields, the method determines how

the fields are combined.

Field Order

—Determines the field order of the

deinterlacing method. In general, it should be set to

the field order of the clip.

Level

—Sets the percentage of blending between the

source clip.

To use the Fields to Frames convert option:

In the Workspace panel (
