17 Paint: Drawing Basics Rectangle and Ellipse Tools Use the Rectangle and Ellipse tools to create filled and stroked rectangles and ellipses. Filled and stroked rectangles and ellipses To create a rectangle or an ellipse: 1. Do one of the following: • In the Paint Toolbar, click the Rectangle or Ellipse tool or press the tool's hot key. • In the Paint Toolbar, click-drag the stroked or filled tool and choose the Rectangle or Ellipse tool, or press the tool's hot key. The selected tool options are displayed. Corner Radius option Mode list 2. Select a mode from the Mode list. Use the Mode list to access the various Rectangle or Ellipse drawing modes. Select Normal Constrained Fixed To Use the default setting. In Normal mode, holding SHIFT while dragging is the same as using Constrained with a setting of 1 and 1. Set a specific width-to-height scale ratio. Any object you draw is scaled to the ratio H:W. Set specific rectangle or ellipse dimensions. This is useful for drawing exact shapes quickly. To do this, set the mode to Fixed, enter the object size in the X and Y fields, and click to set the center point of the fixed shape. If you selected a Rectangle tool, you can set a corner radius to create a rectangle with rounded corners. Note: Corner Radius is not a channel and cannot be animated. It is used only at the time you create the rectangle object. A corner radius of 0 creates a rectangle with rightangled corners. Note: If you selected the Stroked Rectangle Tool, and the size of the brush is greater than the value you set for the Corner Radius, the interior corners of the rectangle appear as right-angled corners. 3. If you are creating a stroked object, select a brush from the Brushes palette. Note: For filled objects, there is no need to select a brush. 4. Click and drag the cursor in the active viewport to draw the object. Polygon Tools Use the polygon tools to create complex shapes. There are two polygon tools: the Bezier tool and the B-Spline tool. With Bezier curves, you control the curves in an object using control points and tangent handles. The 456

Rectangle and Ellipse Tools

Use the Rectangle and Ellipse tools to create filled

and stroked rectangles and ellipses.

To create a rectangle or an ellipse:

Do one of the following:

•

In the Paint Toolbar, click the Rectangle or

Ellipse tool or press the tool’s hot key.

•

In the Paint Toolbar, click-drag the stroked or

filled tool and choose the Rectangle or Ellipse

tool, or press the tool’s hot key.

The selected tool options are displayed.

Select a mode from the Mode list.

Use the Mode list to access the various Rectangle

or Ellipse drawing modes.

If you selected a Rectangle tool, you can set a

corner radius to create a rectangle with rounded

corners.

Note:

Corner Radius is not a channel and cannot

be animated. It is used only at the time you create

the rectangle object.

A corner radius of 0 creates a rectangle with right-

angled corners.

Note:

If you selected the Stroked Rectangle Tool,

and the size of the brush is greater than the value

you set for the Corner Radius, the interior corners

of the rectangle appear as right-angled corners.

If you are creating a stroked object, select a brush

from the Brushes palette.

Note:

For filled objects, there is no need to select

a brush.

Click and drag the cursor in the active viewport

to draw the object.

Polygon Tools

Use the polygon tools to create complex shapes.

There are two polygon tools: the Bezier tool and the

B-Spline tool.

With Bezier curves, you control the curves in an

object using control points and tangent handles. The
