Creating Selection Objects ❚❘❘ Woman's dress selected with the Magic Wand tool. To create a selection with the Magic Wand: 1. In the Toolbar, click the Magic Wand tool . The Magic Wand options appear at the bottom of the Toolbar. 2. Use the Tolerance field to specify the range of color that the Magic Wand selects. The higher the number, the greater the range of color that is selected. Set Tolerance to 0% to select only an area of contiguous color that is the exact same color as the one you click with the Magic Wand. As you increase the tolerance, the area selected expands to include a greater range of color. 3. In the active viewport, click in the area of color. The selected area is outlined with a marquee. ▲ Because the Magic Wand makes selections based on pixel color, if the color of the selected pixel changes on the following frames, the selection changes. If the color of the pixels changes over time, you have to animate or track the position of the Magic Wand to follow the color area. Creating a Rectangular or Elliptical Selection Use the Elliptical or Rectangular Selection tool to create an elliptical or rectangular selection. To create an elliptical or rectangular selection: 1. In the Toolbar, click either the Rectangular Selection tool or the Elliptical Selection tool . If the tool is not visible, click-drag the area selection tools icon and choose the tool you want to use. 2. Click and drag the crosshair until the selection is the size you want. 3. Hold down SHIFT when drawing the selection to create a square or a circle. Creating a Polygon Selection Use the polygon selection tools to draw simple polygon shape selections, complex polygon selections, or a combination of the two. There are two polygon selection tools: the Bezier Selection tool and the B-Spline Selection tool. To create a selection with the Magic Wand:

In the Toolbar, click the Magic Wand tool

The Magic Wand options appear at the bottom of

the Toolbar.

Use the Tolerance field to specify the range of

color that the Magic Wand selects. The higher the

number, the greater the range of color that is

selected. Set Tolerance to 0% to select only an area

of contiguous color that is the exact same color as

the one you click with the Magic Wand. As you

increase the tolerance, the area selected expands
