In other words, if you make the operator larger, the footage remains the same size. Format Options list Changing Output Settings Editing operations can be performed on clips that have different resolutions, aspect ratios, bit depths, and so on. It is not necessary to resize the source footage to the same resolution. However, the output of the Edit operator can only be in a single resolution. If you create a sequence containing multiple-resolution clips, the Edit timeline sequence is sized according to the selected Edit operator output settings. For example, if you import footage that is smaller than the Edit operator output settings, the footage is centered in the frame and the selected background color fills any empty areas. If you import footage that is larger than the Edit operator, the edges are clipped. In this case, you could add an operator, such as Resize, to modify the segment. To select a standard output format: 1. Select the Edit operator you want to change. 2. Click the Output button. These settings are related to the Edit operator, not to a piece of footage. 3. Select a format from the Format Options list. To create a custom output format: 1. Select the Edit operator you want to change. 2. Click the Output button. 3. Select Custom from the Format Options list. 4. Change the Output settings as needed. For information on format options, see "Choosing Format Options" in Chapter 4, "Building Workspaces''. Working in the Edit Timeline When working in the Edit timeline, you can play back segments, use hot keys to navigate through the timeline, add markers, and use various options to customize the Edit timeline view. Navigating the Edit Timeline You can view clips in the sequence or move to specific frames using the current time indicator, or you can move between segments in the timeline using hot keys. To view images in the clip: Do one of the following: • Drag the Current Time indicator to the desired time (frame). 384

Changing the output settings does not

change the individual footage settings. In other

Changing Output Settings

Editing operations can be performed on clips that

have different resolutions, aspect ratios, bit depths,

and so on. It is not necessary to resize the source

footage to the same resolution.

However, the output of the Edit operator can only be

in a single resolution. If you create a sequence

containing multiple-resolution clips, the Edit

timeline sequence is sized according to the selected

Edit operator output settings.

For example, if you import footage that is smaller
