32 Network Rendering Message Tags The "INF" tag that precedes the messages in the Manager and Server windows indicates "information" type messages. The following table lists several message types. Tag INF ERR WRN DBG Color Blue Red Brown Gray Message Information Error Warning Debug Starting the Backburner Servers After Manager is started, you can start Server on each workstation participating in the network render. To network render, at least one workstation must be running Server. To start the Server application: 1. Go to a workstation designated as the render server. 2. Do one of the following: • Choose Start | Program Files | Autodesk | Backburner | server. • Open the Backburner folder and double-click server.exe. The Server window appears and the messages "Starting Backburner Server" and "Loading plugin: combustion 2008.0 render plugin" are displayed. Server searches the network for the Manager application. Once the manager is found, the message "Registration to accepted" is displayed, indicating that the server has successfully established communication with the manager. If other versions of Combustion are installed, or if 3ds max is installed, messages appear indicating that the corresponding plugins load. By default, the server will register to the first Backburner Manager it finds on the network (or to the name/IP address in the preferences). To select a different Backburner Manager, you can manually enter the manager name or IP address in the preferences. If the manager is not found, see Connecting to the Manager. 3. To view messages from the manager and see server activity logs, keep the Server window open. Otherwise, you can minimize the window. 4. Repeat these steps to start the Server application on each workstation participating in the network render. Connecting to the Manager By default, Automatic Search is enabled in the Backburner Server General Properties, so the server automatically looks for a manager. If the message "Looking for a manager using " repeats, it is likely the server cannot find the manager. Note: This procedure is also used when the Backburner Queue Monitor fails to connect to a manager. When the server is set to automatically connect to the manager, it advertises its presence to the entire network and the manager starts a connection as a response in order to register this server into the Backburner network. The “INF” tag that precedes the messages in the

Manager and Server windows indicates

“information” type messages. The following table

lists several message types.

Starting the Backburner Servers

After Manager is started, you can start Server on

each workstation participating in the network

render. To network render, at least one workstation

must be running Server.

To start the Server application:

Go to a workstation designated as the render

server.

Do one of the following:

•

Choose Start | Program

Files | Autodesk | Backburner | server.

•

Open the

Backburner

folder and double-click

server.exe

The Server window appears and the messages

“Starting

Backburner

Server” and “Loading

plugin: combustion 2008.0 render plugin” are

displayed.

application. Once the manager is found, the
