10 Using Masks Drawing Order of Mask Control Points Mask control points are numbered according to the order in which they are drawn. When a control point is added to a mask, the original control points are renumbered to include the new control point as if it were drawn with the original mask. In the following example, a mask control point is added between control points 1 and 2 of a previously drawn elliptical mask. 1 4 2 Points 1 to 4 3. In the Timeline (F4), enable Context. 4. In the viewport, click the control point to show its channels in the Timeline. 3 1 5 2 3 4 Points 1 to 5 after point added; 2 becomes 3 When the new mask control point is added, control point 2 on the first mask becomes control point 3, and the new control point becomes control point 2. Note: A control point added at any point in the timeline exists the length of the operator. Editing Control Points in the Timeline You can adjust control point position and tangent handles in the Timeline. To edit control points in the Timeline: 1. Select the mask object. 2. In the Toolbar (F2), select the Edit Control Points tool to view the mask control points. Note: All control points are active when drawn; however, the active channel only appears in the Timeline once a control point is made inactive (and/or active again). 5. To adjust the position of the control point, click and drag the X or Y channel. Note: You can also double-click a channel in the Timeline list and enter a value using the Numerical Input calculator. 6. To adjust the angle or length of the tangent handle, click and drag the Tangent channels. Using Mask Edge Gradients Use the Offset, In/Out, or Splines edge gradient options to define the inner and outer softness of a mask. 252
