16 Introduction to Paint To edit brush attributes: 1. Select the brush from the palette. 2. Change the attributes in the Brush controls. The following example shows different brush spacing settings of a rectangular brush stroke with an angle setting of 45 degrees. The top brush shows several dabs are shown touching, but not intersecting. The spacing value is 100%. The middle brush shows several dabs of the same brush intersect; the space between their leading edges is half the size of the brush: the spacing value is 50%. The bottom brush shows no space between the dabs of paint in the stroke. Its spacing value is zero. Changing Aspect Ratio To change the aspect ratio, move the Aspect slider from left to right to increase the vertical dimension with respect to the horizontal. This applies to the elliptical, rectangular, and custom brushes. Changing Contact Angle To change the contact angle of the brush, move the Angle slider from left to right. This rotates the contact angle counter-clockwise. 100% spacing 50% spacing 0% spacing To change the amount of space between dabs of paint, move the Spacing slider. The higher the number, the more space appears between dabs. If you scrub the Spacing field, you can set the spacing to a maximum of 200%. If you click the Spacing field, you can set the spacing to a maximum of 1000%. 0° contact angle 90° contact angle 135° contact angle Changing Spacing The amount of space between dabs of paint depends on the speed at which you draw to create the dab and the spacing number. To produce a smooth continuous stroke, draw fast, and to produce a less continuous stroke with larger gaps between brush images, draw slow.The spacing number is the percentage of the size of the brush used between the leading edges of two brush dabs. Changing Brush Type Enable Airbrush to create an airbrush stroke using an elliptical or rectangular brush. Use the Flow slider to adjust the amount of color applied with the airbrush. To edit brush attributes:

Select the brush from the palette.

Change the attributes in the Brush controls.

Changing Aspect Ratio

To change the aspect ratio, move the Aspect slider

from left to right to increase the vertical dimension

with respect to the horizontal. This applies to the

elliptical, rectangular, and custom brushes.

Changing Contact Angle

To change the contact angle of the brush, move the

Angle slider from left to right. This rotates the

contact angle counter-clockwise.

Changing Spacing

The amount of space between dabs of paint depends

on the speed at which you draw to create the dab and

the spacing number. To produce a smooth

continuous stroke, draw fast, and to produce a less

continuous stroke with larger gaps between brush

images, draw slow.The spacing number is the

percentage of the size of the brush used between the

leading edges of two brush dabs.
