20 Animating Text Text Outline Controls Use the Outline attribute to create and edit text outlines. You can adjust the color, thickness, softness, and opacity of the outline. As with the Face attributes, the Solid, Texture, and Gradient source options can be applied to Text object outlines. Color-Sets the color of the text outline. Opacity-Sets the opacity of the text outline. The Opacity setting applies to the Solid, Gradient and Texture Outline options. Softness-Sets the softness of the text outline. The Softness setting applies to the Solid, Gradient and Texture Outline options. Size-Sets the thickness of the text outline edge. Drawing Priority-Determines whether the outline is drawn above the text characters or below the text characters. Solid-Uses a solid color for the outline. Gradient-Uses a color gradient color for the outline. Texture-Uses an image or operator from the workspace as a texture for the outline. You can also import an image from disk. Note: The Solid, Gradient, and Texture options are the same for the Face and Outline text attributes. For instructions on using these options, see Text Face Controls. To create a text outline: 1. Select the text object. 2. In the Text Controls panel (F8), click Attributes. 3. Click Outline. 4. Click the small gray box on the Outline button to enable Outline. Outline controls When enabled, the small box is yellow and the Outline controls are displayed. By default, a white outline that is one point wide is added to the text object. Note: To display only the outline, disable Face. Editing the Outline Properties You can soften the outline of the text object, scale the width of the outline, and specify whether the outline is placed above or below the Face of the text object. To change the color of the outline: Click the color box and select a color from the Pick Color dialog. You can also use the Color Picker tool. Note: You can also CTRL-click the color box, select a color from the color palette, and press ENTER. Text Outline Controls

Use the Outline attribute to create and edit text

outlines. You can adjust the color, thickness,

softness, and opacity of the outline. As with the Face

attributes, the Solid, Texture, and Gradient source

options can be applied to Text object outlines.

Color

—Sets the color of the text outline.

Opacity

—Sets the opacity of the text outline. The

Opacity setting applies to the Solid, Gradient and

Texture Outline options.

Softness

—Sets the softness of the text outline. The

Softness setting applies to the Solid, Gradient and

Texture Outline options.

Size

—Sets the thickness of the text outline edge.

Drawing Priority

—Determines whether the

outline is drawn above the text characters or below

the text characters.

Solid

—Uses a solid color for the outline.

Gradient

—Uses a color gradient color for the

outline.

Texture

—Uses an image or operator from the

workspace as a texture for the outline. You can also

Note:

Controls

Creating a Text Outline

Use the Outline attributes to create and edit the

outline of a text object.

To create a text outline:

Select the text object.

In the Text Controls panel (

), click Attributes.

Click Outline.

Click the small gray box on the Outline button to

enable Outline.

When enabled, the small box is yellow and the

Outline controls are displayed.

By default, a white outline that is one point wide

is added to the text object.

Note:

To display only the outline, disable Face.
