Using Custom Brushes ❚❘❘ Sharing Brush Sets Brush sets, as mixers and swatches, can be shared with other Combustion users. The default brush sets reside in the following directory: • Windows: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Combustion 2008\Brushes These brushes, as well as the brush sets you create, are also saved on your workstation under: • Windows: C:\Documents and Settings\\Application Data\combustion2008\ Brushes Creating Brushes from Paint You can use a Paint operator as the source for your custom brush. This enables you to use all the tools available in Paint to define the custom brush shape, color, gradient, and so on. You can also add effects operators to the Paint source to obtain the desired result. To create a custom brush from Paint: 1. Select Custom from the Shape list. Using Custom Brushes You can create customized brushes to obtain a high degree of flexibility and control over the shape, size, and individual marks that make up the brush. Use custom brushes to create complex textures such as hair and fur, for example, or to mimic the appearance of pencil and chalk strokes. The brush source (the canvas on which you create the custom brush) can be derived from a Paint operator, a Particles operator, or imported footage. The brush source is linked to the custom brush until you choose to commit it. Changes you make to the brush source are dynamically reflected in the custom brush. When creating custom brushes, you can simply add a new brush to the brush set you are working in, or create a brush set to organize your custom brushes. For information, see Using Brush Sets. Brush sets containing custom brushes can be shared with other users and can only be modified within the workspace that contains the brush source. See Editing and Saving Custom Brushes. The Brush Source controls appear. 2. Click New Paint. The active viewport displays the current CustomBrush Paint operator. It is the source for the new brush. If you were working in a single-viewport layout, the layout changes to two-viewport layout. In the Workspace panel, a Custom Brush Library is created. 431

Sharing Brush Sets

Brush sets, as mixers and swatches, can be shared

with other

Combustion

users. The default brush sets

reside in the following directory:

These brushes, as well as the brush sets you create,

Using Custom Brushes

You can create customized brushes to obtain a high

degree of flexibility and control over the shape, size,

and individual marks that make up the brush. Use

custom brushes to create complex textures such as

hair and fur, for example, or to mimic the

appearance of pencil and chalk strokes.

The

brush source

(the canvas on which you create the

custom brush) can be derived from a Paint operator,

a Particles operator, or imported footage. The brush

source is linked to the custom brush until you

choose to commit it. Changes you make to the brush

source are dynamically reflected in the custom

brush.

When creating custom brushes, you can simply add

a new brush to the brush set you are working in, or

create a brush set to organize your custom brushes.

Creating Brushes from Paint

You can use a Paint operator as the source for your

custom brush. This enables you to use all the tools

available in Paint to define the custom brush shape,

color, gradient, and so on.

You can also add effects operators to the Paint source

To create a custom brush from Paint:

Select Custom from the Shape list.

The Brush Source controls appear.

Click New Paint.
