Adding Clips ❚❘❘ If the Edit timeline already contains segments and Ripple mode is enabled, segments located after those you added move toward the end of the timeline and the total duration of the sequence increases. If the Edit timeline already contains segments and Overwrite mode is enabled, segments located after those you added are overwritten for the duration of the new material. The duration of the sequence does not change. Performing One-Point Edits You can mark an in point or out point in the Edit timeline to control the location of imported footage and operators. To perform a one-point edit: 1. Set Ripple or Overwrite mode. See Setting Ripple and Overwrite Modes. 2. If the Edit timeline already contains segments, do one of the following: • Mark an in point to insert the first frame of the footage at that frame and "forward fill" the footage in the timeline. • Mark an out point to insert the last frame of the segment at the out point and "back fill" the footage in the timeline. For information, see Marking In and Out Points. 3. If the Edit timeline is empty, in the Output controls, disable Auto Adjust Duration and enter the required length in the Duration field, then mark an in point or out point in the Edit timeline. 4. In the Edit Timeline controls, click Import Footage. The Import Footage dialog opens. Note: You can also click Pick Operator to import another operator from the workspace. 5. Select the footage you want to add and click OK or press ENTER. If you marked only an in point, the first frame is added at the in point and continues for the duration of the clip. If you marked only an out point, the clip ends at the out point, and is back filled in the timeline for the duration of the clip. Performing Two-Point Edits You can mark in and out points in the Edit timeline to control the location and duration of imported footage and operators. This can be useful, for example, when you want to replace a selection of frames. For example, imagine you have a 200-frame segment in the Edit timeline and you want to replace the frames between frame 50 and 125 with another clip. By using these frames as your in and out points, the frames that lie between them are replaced with the new material. The frames you replaced are still available as head and tail frames in the original segment, if you want to trim it or create a transition. To perform a two-point edit: 1. Set Ripple or Overwrite mode. See Setting Ripple and Overwrite Modes. 2. If the Edit timeline already contains segments, mark both in and out points in the timeline. For information, see Marking In and Out Points. 3. If the Edit timeline is empty, in the Output controls, disable Auto Adjust Duration and enter the required timeline length in the Duration field, then mark in and out points in the timeline. 4. In the Edit Timeline controls, click Import Footage. The Import Footage dialog opens. Note: You can also click Pick Operator to import another operator from the workspace. 5. If the Edit timeline already contains segments and

Performing One-Point Edits

You can mark an in point or out point in the Edit

timeline to control the location of imported footage

and operators.

To perform a one-point edit:
