16 Introduction to Paint Clear Gradient Click the Clear button to delete all tags from the gradient and reset the color to the foreground color as specified in the Modes controls. Edge Gradient Use the options in this list to set the edge gradient. The edge gradient defines the inner and outer offset and softness of a Paint object. Select None Offset In/Out Splines To Use no edge gradients. Set an inner or outer offset from the edge of the Paint object. Use Opacity to adjust the falloff of the gradient. Set separate values for the inner and outer offsets from the edge of the Paint object. Use vertices to control the inner and outer object offsets at each control point. Splines are only visible when the Control Points option in the Toolbar is selected. Shadow Controls Use the Shadow controls to create a shadow on the underlying objects and footage, based on the shape of the selected object(s). You can use this to create imagery that appears to float off the screen in 3D. Distance-Specifies how far the shadow appears from the selected object(s). Direction-Determines the orientation of the shadow with respect to the selected object(s). By default, this value is set to 315 degrees. Scale-Makes the shadow bigger or smaller than the selected object(s). By default, this value is set to 100%. Opacity-Specifies the transparency of the drop shadow. By default, this value is set to 50%. Softness-Specifies the fuzziness of the edges of the shadow. Use this slider to create a more soft-edge shadow. By default, this value is set to 0. Color-Specifies the color of the shadow. By default, the color is set to black, but you can choose any color by using the Color Picker tool, or by clicking the Color box and choosing a color from the Pick Color dialog. Color Picker-Use the Color Picker to pick a color in the Swatches panel or to sample a pixel (or range of pixels) from an operator displayed in the viewport. Enable-Turns on the shadow. To add a drop shadow to a Paint object: 1. In the Toolbar (F2), click the Arrow tool . 2. In the Workspace panel, select the Paint object to which you want to add a drop shadow. 3. In the Paint Controls panel, click Shadow to access the Shadow controls. The Shadow controls are made up of the following elements. 440

Clear Gradient

Click the Clear button to delete all tags from the

gradient and reset the color to the foreground color

as specified in the Modes controls.

Edge Gradient

Use the options in this list to set the edge gradient.

The edge gradient defines the inner and outer offset

and softness of a Paint object.

Shadow Controls

Use the Shadow controls to create a shadow on the

underlying objects and footage, based on the shape

of the selected object(s). You can use this to create

imagery that appears to float off the screen in 3D.

The Shadow controls are made up of the following

elements.

Distance

—Specifies how far the shadow appears

from the selected object(s).

Direction

—Determines the orientation of the

shadow with respect to the selected object(s). By

default, this value is set to 315 degrees.

Scale

—Makes the shadow bigger or smaller than

the selected object(s). By default, this value is set to

100%.

Opacity

—Specifies the transparency of the drop

shadow. By default, this value is set to 50%.

Softness

—Specifies the fuzziness of the edges of

the shadow. Use this slider to create a more soft-edge

shadow. By default, this value is set to 0.

Color

—Specifies the color of the shadow. By default,

the color is set to black, but you can choose any color

by using the Color Picker tool, or by clicking the

Color box and choosing a color from the Pick Color

dialog.

Color Picker

—Use the Color Picker

to pick a

color in the Swatches panel or to sample a pixel (or

range of pixels) from an operator displayed in the

viewport.

Enable

—Turns on the shadow.

To add a drop shadow to a Paint object:

In the Toolbar (
