Importing Footage ❚❘❘ Note: When you import footage into an Edit operator, a new segment is created. The segment contains one operator-the Footage operator. Once your footage is imported, you are ready to begin compositing, editing, animating, painting, and so on. Note: For best results, all footage operators used as layers in a composite should have the same frame rate as the composite. For more information, see Changing the Frame Rate. To import a clip: 1. In the Workspace panel, select the composite into which you want to import footage. 2. Choose File | Import Footage (CTRL+I). The Import Footage dialog appears. 3. Navigate to the folder containing the footage you want to import, select the footage, and then click OK. Note: CTRL-click to select multiple files. Selected files appear at the bottom of the Import Footage dialog. To remove a selected file, click Remove or double-click or double-click the thumbnail at the bottom of the Import Footage dialog. A new layer (or layers) containing the selected footage appears in the composite. The layers are stacked in the Workspace panel in the order you imported the footage. The last footage selected appears in the current viewport. The changes to the composite are reflected in the Timeline and in the Schematic view. You can also import footage in the Footage Library from the Schematic view. Right-click an empty area in the Schematic and then choose Add Source | Footage. Note: For information on viewing layers in the Timeline, see "Navigating in the Timeline Hierarchy" in Chapter 12, "Creating Animations''. Note: For information on importing footage in the Edit Timeline, see "Adding Clips" in Chapter 15, "Editing Clips''. Importing an Image Sequence When importing footage, you can import a series of sequentially numbered image files as a clip or you can import a single image from a sequence with an undefined duration (you specify the image duration after you import it into the workspace). For files to be considered part of a sequence, they have to be located in the same folder, and named in a manner similar to the following: filename001.tga, filename002.tga, filename003.tga, filename004.tga, and so on. Note: You can import an image sequence in an Edit operator the same way as you do in a composite. However, there are various methods to determine how imported footage is added to the Edit timeline. For additional information, see "Adding Clips" in Chapter 15, "Editing Clips''. To import an image sequence as a layer: 1. In the Workspace panel, select the composite into which you want to import footage. 2. Choose File | Import Footage (CTRL+I). The Import Footage dialog appears. 3. Navigate to the folder containing the sequence or edit the path at the top of the Import Footage dialog. 99

Importing Footage

Note:

When you import footage into an Edit

operator, a new segment is created. The segment

contains one operator—the Footage operator.

Once your footage is imported, you are ready to

begin compositing, editing, animating, painting,

and so on.

Note:

For best results, all footage operators used as

layers in a composite should have the same frame

rate as the composite. For more information, see

Changing the Frame Rate

To import a clip:

In the Workspace panel, select the composite into

which you want to import footage.

Choose File | Import Footage (

The Import Footage dialog appears.

Navigate to the folder containing the footage you

want to import, select the footage, and then click

OK.

Note:

TRL

-click to select multiple files. Selected

files appear at the bottom of the Import Footage

dialog. To remove a selected file, click Remove or

double-click or double-click the thumbnail at the

bottom of the Import Footage dialog.

A new layer (or layers) containing the selected

footage appears in the composite. The layers are

You can also import footage in the Footage Library
