15 Editing Clips To delete a segment: 1. Select the segment, or segments, you want to delete. See Selecting Segments in the Timeline. Note: You can delete multiple segments. However, all other editing operations must be performed on single segments. 2. Click Delete or press DELETE or BACKSPACE. Note: To delete frames, you can add a cut at the first frame that you want to delete, and then select the new segment and delete it. See Creating a Cut. Replacing Segments and Frames You can replace segments in the Edit timeline with other or operators via the Edit Timeline or via the Schematic view. You can also replace a frame or a selection of frames with other footage or operators via the Timeline. When you choose to replace segments via the Schematic view, if the replacement footage is shorter than the original, the tail frame number in the Edit timeline indicates the missing frames. You must then go to the Edit timeline to trim the segment to the appropriate size. If the replacement footage is longer than the original, additional tail frames are added. When you choose to replace segments via the Edit timeline, if the replacement footage is shorter than the original, only the equivalent number of frames are replaced. If the replacement footage is longer than the original, additional tail frames are added. To replace a segment via the Schematic view: 1. Disconnect from the segment node the operator node you want to replace. 2. Connect the new operator node to the segment node. For information, see "Connecting Nodes" in Chapter 6, "Using Schematic View''. In the Edit timeline, the segment updates to reflect the new material, but maintains its original duration. To replace a segment or frames via the Edit timeline: 1. Mark in and out points to select the segment or frames you want to replace. See Selecting Frames in the Timeline. 2. Enable Overwrite. 3. Do one of the following: • To replace the selection with footage, click Import footage. • To replace the selection with the output of an operator, click Pick Operator. 4. Select the required operator, and then click OK. The selection is updated to reflect the new material. Duplicating Segments You can duplicate a segment to quickly create multiple versions of it within the Edit operator. To duplicate a segment: 1. Move the current time indicator to where you want to insert the new segment. 2. In the Edit Timeline, select the segment you want to copy. 3. Choose Edit | Duplicate (CTRL+ALT+D). The segment is copied and added to location you selected. Note: You can also right-click the segment in the Workspace panel and choose Duplicate. However, segments duplicated in this way are always added after current segments. Cutting, Copying, and Pasting Segments You can cut, copy, and paste segments from one location in the Edit timeline and paste them to another location in the Edit timeline. You can also copy and paste segments from the Edit timeline to other Edit operators in the Workspace panel. 394

To delete a segment:

Select the segment, or segments, you want to

delete. See

Replacing Segments and Frames

You can replace segments in the Edit timeline with

other or operators via the Edit Timeline or via the

Schematic view. You can also replace a frame or a

selection of frames with other footage or operators

via the Timeline.

When you choose to replace segments via the

Schematic view, if the replacement footage is shorter
