6 Using Schematic View nodes outside the group are connected to dummy nodes. Exclusive View of a Group's Contents Dummy nodes You cannot break the connection to a dummy node, or delete the dummy node. To return to the previous Schematic level: Do one of the following: • SHIFT-click the gray area away from the nodes. • Right-click an empty area of the Schematic view and choose Exit Group Node. • Double-click on any dummy node. The Schematic view switches to show all nodes at the next higher level (including the Group Node). Naming Nodes Each operator you add is automatically assigned a default name. For example, when a Rectangular Mask operator is added to a branch, the node is named Rectangular Mask. Just as in the Workspace panel, you can assign more descriptive names to nodes in the Schematic view. To change the name of a node: Select the node, and do one of the following: • Click once to select the node, then click the label, and type the new name in the field that appears. • Right-click and choose Rename. If you rename an operator in the Schematic, the Workspace panel and Timeline updates to show the new name. Conversely, if an operator is renamed in the Workspace panel or in the Timeline, the node is renamed in the Schematic. Adding Nodes Once a workspace is created or opened, you can add nodes at any time in the Schematic view. To add a node in the Schematic view: Select a node, and do one of the following: • Choose Operators and select an operator from the list. • Right-click a selected node, choose Add Operator, and select an operator from the list. Note: If the selected node is a layer node, choose Operators from the context menu. The context menu option for footage, operator and Composite nodes is "Add Operator", and the context menu option for the layer node is "Operators". • In the Operators panel (F5), select an operator category from the Operators list, and then select an operator from the panel. The selected operator is added to the node. You can add the same operator node to several nodes simultaneously. To add a footage or solid node: 1. Right-click an empty area in the Schematic view. 2. Choose Add Source from the context menu, then select Footage or Solid. To add a node to a group of nodes: Select the nodes, and do one of the following: • Choose Operators and select an operator from the list. • Right-click a selected node, choose Add Operator, and select an operator from the list. Note: The operator is added to all selected nodes. 174
