Setting an Audio Region ❚❘❘ Setting an Audio Region You can use a region of an audio file in your project instead of the entire file. To do this, use the Start and Duration fields in the Audio panel. The Start field defines the beginning point of the audio clip, while the Duration determines the total length of the audio clip. The new audio track, by default, starts at the first frame of the current operator. For example, if you set the Start field to 00:00:00:30, the audio starts from its 30-second mark when you start the video playback from the beginning (00:00:00:00). To set an audio region: 1. Show the Audio panel (F6). 2. To set the timecode in the audio file where you want the audio to start, set the Start field, or click and drag the black line to the left end of the waveform. 3. To specify how long you want the audio to play, set the Duration field, or click and drag the black line to the right end of the waveform. Note: If the audio is linked to an operator, the audio duration cannot be set to longer than the duration of the linked operator. See Linking Audio to a Layer or an Operator. 4. To limit audio playback to the specified region, enable Play Region. Syncing Audio and Video Use the waveform in the Timeline to sync the audio with the video in the workspace. You can sync the video to the audio by dragging video timebars/keyframes in the Timeline while the waveform is displayed. This gives an easy visual cue as to where your video events line up with the audio. You can also sync audio to video by "parking" the Current Time indicator on a significant event, and slipping the audio around that time so that it matches precisely. To sync video to audio: 1. Show the Timeline and enable Waveform to display the audio waveform. 2. To scrub the audio, hold ALT and scrub the Current Time indicator. This allows you to hear where the sync points are in the audio while watching the waveform. 3. Drag the appropriate timebars/keyframes to the location of the waveform peaks. To sync audio to video: 1. Show the Timeline and enable Waveform to display the audio waveform. 2. Move the Current Time indicator to a sync point, for example, a keyframe. 3. CTRL+ALT-drag the cursor over the waveform to move the waveform to sync to that moment in the video. 745

Setting an Audio Region

You can use a region of an audio file in your project

instead of the entire file. To do this, use the Start and

Duration fields in the Audio panel. The Start field

defines the beginning point of the audio clip, while

the Duration determines the total length of the audio

clip.

The new audio track, by default, starts at the first

frame of the current operator. For example, if you set

the Start field to 00:00:00:30, the audio starts from its

30-second mark when you start the video playback

from the beginning (00:00:00:00).

To set an audio region:

Show the Audio panel (

Note:

with the video in the workspace.
